Early Works

In 1940, Kay graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a degree in composition. Kay's early works premiered at Eastman included his "Sinfonietta for Orchestra;" "Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra," performed by Robert Sprenkle; and, in the program shown here, his ballet "Danse Calinda," based on a story by Ridgeley Torrence, written for theater orchestra." https://exhibitions.library.columbia.edu/exhibits/show/kay/eastman-and-yale
